One such fire of the roaring variety
Do you smell that? It smells like hickory smoked band members… and burnt cheese puffs?
Yes! This past weekend, Stereoreel had the great pleasure to play a weekend retreat for the Greenvillage Church of God Youth Group of Chambersburg, PA. Despite the temperatures being the sort that inspires old people to buy tickets for an exotic cruise (so they can learn how to play shuffle board and rediscover disco rather than shatter into pieces like the T-1000), we had an absolutely wonderful time with the group (led by Summer Rock) and with Danny and Sarah Hughes (the speaker and his wife). We especially enjoyed the quality time that we got to spend with the many roaring fires and well-crafted rocking chairs that populated the lodges.

These things are dangerous!
Allow me to offer a small piece of advice, however: Beware roaring fires and well-crafted rocking chairs! As separate entities, they can be enjoyed in modicum and allow you to relax from the burdens of trivial matters; but when their forces are combined, the ensuing incapacitating effect is nothing less than lethal! This can be attested to by our rather embarrassing inability to report to Saturday’s lunch on time. While all the high school children and group leaders were merrily masticating their majestic morsels; Dustin, Caleb, Ethan, and I were too busy sitting limply in a semi-circular formation of rocking chairs whilst staring at the mesmerizing glow of a forest flambe to even remember to look at the time, much less realize that we had missed lunch by 20 minutes.
Ironically, the song “Clocks” seemed to haunt us for the rest of the weekend. (Thanks Laurie and Kristyn…)

"WE LOVE STEREOREEL!!!"
Overall, the retreat was a blast! It was great to see so many people so enthusiastically embrace the worship songs we played. Most notably, though, was the way that God moved over the weekend. Danny did an excellent job of presenting the Gospel in a powerful and truthful way; encouraging everyone, “Don’t Waste Your Life!” Summer and the rest of the leaders were also spectacular and put on a fantastic event that the kids all seemed to really enjoy. It’s always great to be around people so encouraging and friendly! It was also super cool to meet so many new friends! Especially the kind that eat chocolate cupcakes, enjoy the sight of blue paisley, hate on the Steelers (HA!), delicately consume salad, or share similar noses.
We’d also like to say a special thanks to all the people in the kitchen! Thank you for allowing us to eat after our blatant tardiness! Everything was delicious!
One final shout out to “Hank the Trucker.” We will never be able to eat peanut butter again.
Mi scuzzi!
